WHAT IS ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS (AS)?

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a form of arthritis. It is a chronic inflammatory disease that mainly affects the ligaments and joints of the lower back. Other joints are sometimes affected. The severity of AS varies from mild to severe. It is mild or moderate in most cases. Once AS has been diagnosed treatment includes regular exercise and anti-inflammatory medicines. Back pain and stiffness of the spine are the most common signs of AS.
